Surfwatch Woodwork - Photo gallery
Surfwatch features woodwork from various artists.
The woodwork captures Kaikoura’s charisma in unique wood forms, both decorative and functional.
The shell inlay is New Zealand Paua (pronounced “pah-wah”), the most colourful member of the abalone family. Beautiful jewellery is made from Paua, and the meat is a food delicacy. Paua “pearls” are also cultured. Small pieces of paua shells, and occasionally a complete shell, are commonly found on New Zealand beaches.
